1. Who we are
Scanara ("we", "us", "our") is a mobile document scanner with AI text extraction, published by Northstack Studio. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Scanara apps for iOS and Android and to this website.
2. The short version
We collect only what we need to run the app: your account details, the documents you choose to scan, and basic diagnostics. Your scans and extracted text are stored under your account so we can sync and back them up. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and you can delete your account and all of your scans at any time.
3. Information we collect
- Account data — your email address and display name, provided through Firebase Authentication when you sign in. We do not store your password; sign-in is handled securely by Firebase.
- Scanned documents — the page images you capture and the text extracted from them. These are stored in your account using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore for text and metadata, Cloud Storage for images).
- Diagnostics — crash reports and error diagnostics collected through Sentry to help us find and fix bugs. These may include device model, operating system version, and app version.
- App preferences — settings such as theme (including dark mode) and language (English or Indonesian).
4. AI text extraction (OCR)
When you choose to extract text from a scan, the page image is sent over an encrypted connection to a secure cloud function we operate. That function uses Anthropic's Claude vision model to read the page and return the extracted text. The image is processed only to perform this extraction and to return your result; it is not used to train AI models. The resulting text is then stored under your account so you can view, copy, and reuse it.
5. How we use your data
- To provide the core features: scanning, auto-crop, AI text extraction, PDF export, and sharing.
- To back up and sync your scans and extracted text across your devices.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the app's reliability.
We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, and we do not include third-party advertising or ad-tracking SDKs in the app.
6. Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers we rely on to operate Scanara, and only as needed to provide the app:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), and file storage (Cloud Storage) for your account and scans.
- Anthropic — processes scanned page images through our cloud function to perform AI text extraction.
- Sentry — receives crash and error diagnostics.
These providers process data on our behalf. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
7. Data retention
We keep your scans, extracted text, and account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete a scan, it is removed from your account. When you delete your account, we delete your scans and associated personal data. Diagnostic reports are retained for a limited period and then automatically removed.
8. Deleting your data
You can delete individual scans at any time from within the app. You can also delete your entire account, which removes your scans and extracted text from our systems. If you need help, contact us at batamapps.info@gmail.com and we will assist with your request.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) between the app, our cloud function, and our service providers, and is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure with encryption at rest. Access to stored scans is restricted to your authenticated account.
10. Children
Scanara is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
